| NO -- Just Say It |
 |
|
by Claire Shipman & Katty Kay,
Authors of Womenomics: Write Your Own
Rules for Success
Once you've tamed your inner-guilt
monster, you are ready to welcome that
most wonderful of words into your
vocabulary. We're certain you barely use
it. But it's a potent combination of two
letters that could routinely save our sanity.
Go ahead. Say it. You know the word we
mean.
NO.
Are we simply allergic to it, terrified of the
consequences? What do we really think
will happen if it becomes a regular part of
our speech? Maybe the world would be
rocked by an Armageddon of hurt
feelings? Perhaps our pictures would be
blasted through cyberspace as modern-
day Leona Helmsleys? Or worst of all,
people might be -- disappointed?
Maybe. But here's the fundamental
problem. When we are so eager to please
everyone and avoid people being cross
with us, we end up saying yes to a lot of
things we don't really want. This of course
means we end up spending more time
working than we really want. And that's
why you are reading this book.

| Don't Marry Until You Can Discuss Money! |
 |
|
by Helga Hayse
Your wedding is in six weeks. You've tried
to talk about money
with your fiancée for the last few months
and he continues to
find a way to shut down the conversation.
You're especially
panicky because last night you had this
conversation:
You: "Honey, our wedding is in six weeks
and I'm feeling very
uncomfortable because we've never really
talked about money and
how we'll handle it after we're married."
Your fiancée: "We did talk about it,
sweetheart. Lots of times.
Aren't I paying for most the wedding
expenses? And didn't we
agree we'd take care of the details after
we get back from our
honeymoon."
You: "Yes, but money is such an important
part of marriage and I
think we should clarify some things before
we marry."
Your fiancée" Why? I love you; you love
me. I'm starting to feel
you don't trust me."
Big red flag here! Talking about money
won't get any easier
after you're married.
Consider this - The financial part of your
marriage isn't about
trust. It's about equal participation and
financial transparency
for both of you.
You have to be financially intimate
because once you say "I Do",
you become one-half of a legal and
financial partnership.
Whatever your husband is doing
financially, you're doing it too.
Your fiancée should honor your need and
desire to discuss money
before the wedding. He should be
welcoming your interest and
desire to participate, especially if he
believes you are an
equal partner.

| How to Amuse Your Kids and Keep Your Sanity During Summer Vacation |
 |
|
by Mike Marinaro SCHOOL IS
OUT FOR THE SUMMER!!! That's
GREAT for the kids, but what about
the moms? For the working moms it
means
extra expense for day care and for the
stay-at-home moms it's goodbye to the
peace
and quiet!
The secret to keeping your sanity during
summer vacation is keeping the kids busy!
Check your local churches for Vacation
Bible Schools, most churches over
weekend or week long programs for little
or no cost and you don't have to be a
member of their church to participate.
There are lots of great activities, arts and
crafts,snacks and religious education. The
kids will love it and probably make some
new friends.
Don't forget your public library, many have
planned summer activities such as
storytellers and arts and craft programs for
the kids.
Your local YMCA will also have lots of
summer activities to keep the children
busy.
There are summer camps for outdoor
activities such as swimming, hiking,
camping, etc.
Don't forget, you are not alone...all the
other moms are in the same situation.
Perhaps you can get together with other
neighborhood moms and take turns
chaperoning the kids on field trips to a
water park, lake, zoo or other local
attraction.
Remember...bored kids will drive you
crazy...keep them busy and keep your
sanity!
